Nerve blocks are interventional procedures involving injection of anesthetic or anti-inflammatory medication near a specific nerve or nerve group to accurately diagnose the pain source or directly treat it.

The diagnostic results of nerve blocks are fundamental to the treatment plan. If pain significantly decreases after a diagnostic block, a more permanent treatment such as radiofrequency ablation can then be planned. This stepwise approach ensures treatment targets the correct source.
