Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about interventional pain management, procedures, and appointments. Pain doctor Amman Jordan.

What is interventional pain management?

Interventional pain management is a medical specialty focused on diagnosing and treating pain using precisely guided procedures. Instead of relying solely on medications, pain specialists use advanced techniques to target the source of pain directly. The goal is to reduce pain, improve function, and decrease reliance on painkillers.

When should I see a pain management specialist?

It is recommended to see a pain specialist if you have pain lasting more than two weeks, pain affecting your sleep or daily activities, pain not improving with usual treatments, or if you need increasing amounts of painkillers to control pain.

Are tests and medical imaging always required?

Not always. It depends on the nature of pain and clinical examination results. In some cases, an accurate diagnosis can be reached through medical history and examination. In other cases, we may need imaging or additional tests to confirm.

How do I prepare for my first visit?

Bring any medical reports or previous imaging related to your condition. Prepare a list of medications you are currently taking. Think about pain details: when it started, what increases or decreases it, how it affects your life. This information helps with the evaluation.

How long is the first visit?

The first visit typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. We need this time to listen to pain details, conduct a clinical examination, and discuss treatment options.

Can I book via WhatsApp?

Where is the clinic located?

Are results guaranteed?

No specific results can be guaranteed for any medical treatment. Response to treatment varies from person to person depending on the nature of the condition, overall health, and other factors. We discuss realistic expectations during the consultation.

Are interventional procedures painful?

Most procedures are performed under local anesthesia and the patient feels only slight pressure. In some procedures, we may use light sedation for patient comfort. We ensure to minimize discomfort as much as possible.

How long is the recovery period after the procedure?

This varies depending on the type of procedure. Most procedures are simple and the patient can return to normal activity the same day or the next day. We will give you specific instructions based on the procedure.

Can medications be reduced after interventional treatment?

In many cases, successful interventional treatment allows for gradual reduction in reliance on painkillers. This is done in coordination with the doctor and based on the condition's response.

Is my data saved if I use the WhatsApp form?

The WhatsApp form on our website redirects you directly to the WhatsApp app with a pre-filled message. We do not store any data on our website. The conversation takes place directly via WhatsApp.

Is treatment suitable for elderly patients?

Yes, we evaluate each case individually considering age and overall health condition. Many elderly patients benefit from interventional treatment safely.

What are pain management clinics?

Pain management clinics are specialised medical facilities that provide interventional pain services, usually located within hospitals or specialised medical centres. They offer a comprehensive patient assessment and a treatment plan tailored to the individual case.

Which techniques are used in interventional pain management?

Techniques include interventional procedures such as injections near nerves, nerve blocks and radiofrequency, stimulation procedures such as spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, and supportive interventions such as pain coping training and relaxation techniques. The technique is chosen according to the diagnosis of each case.

Which conditions can be treated with interventional pain management?

Many conditions can be assessed, including cervical and lumbar disc herniation, chronic back pain, pelvic pain, sciatica, cancer pain, post-herpetic pain, joint pain, trigeminal nerve pain, and complex regional pain syndrome.

How is my condition diagnosed and the right treatment chosen?

Diagnosis relies on a full assessment of your medical history, symptoms and clinical examination. Additional tests such as MRI or X-ray imaging may be needed to identify the source of pain and the appropriate treatment target.

What are the benefits of interventional pain management?

Potential benefits include reduced pain and improved quality of life, less reliance on pain medication, better ability to carry out daily activities, and improved sleep and general wellbeing. Response varies from one person to another.

Is interventional pain treatment temporary or permanent?

This differs from case to case. In some cases treatment is used to relieve pain for a defined period, while other cases may need longer follow-up to keep chronic pain under control.

Is interventional pain management safe?

Interventional pain management is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified specialist. As with any medical procedure, there may be potential risks and side effects, which are discussed with you before treatment begins.

How does interventional pain treatment work?

The mechanism depends on the technique used. In general, treatment aims to reduce inflammation, suppress pain signals sent to the brain, or interrupt the nerves that transmit pain.

Does interventional pain management require surgery?

Most interventional pain procedures are non-surgical and are performed through the skin under imaging guidance. In a few cases these techniques may not be sufficient or suitable, and the doctor then assesses the need for other options with the relevant specialty.

How long does treatment take and how many sessions are needed?

Treatment duration and the number of sessions depend on the individual case and the type of pain. Some cases may need more than one session; the plan, number of sessions and intervals between them are decided after clinical assessment.
